2026 Riptide Mission and Coaching Contract

Mission & Vision Mission Statement We were founded to provide student-athletes with the opportunity to be coached and instructed by individuals who have played at a high level and can coach at a high level. Our mission is to create a culture where we build these young student-athletes into solid young people through hard work, accountability, and a passion for excellence. Our goal as a coaching staff is to challenge our student-athletes to be the best versions of themselves on and off the field. Riptide Baseball Coaching Philosophy As a coaching staff, we understand that we will be involved in athletic competition, intense practice/training sessions, and team-building events. We will focus on the development of our young people from a physical, mental, emotional, and maturity standpoint, as well as on maximizing their growth as baseball/softball players. As a coaching staff, our goal is to: 1. To provide an inclusive club providing opportunities for growth, development, and fun play. 2. To teach, instruct, and give ample feedback from practice to practice and game to game. 3. To be an example and leader on and off the field. 4. To challenge players physically and mentally to deal with adversity. 5. To facilitate an environment conducive to hard work and maximum effort, while fostering fun, seeking to develop good habits and a solid work ethic. 6. To provide a positive team environment while always emphasizing the importance of "team first", encouragement, and teamwork. 7. To prepare players for Middle School, High School, and/or College Competition 8. To foster an open organization where parents and families learn and grow with the athletes. 9. To always maintain an "open door" policy with players so they can learn how to communicate with coaches now and in the future, in the correct ways. 10. To prepare our players for life both on and off the field a. Emphasize character and hard work in everything that we do b. Teach our players how to be role models to their peers c. Use game experiences as a teachable life lesson Playing Time Playing Time is never equal from player to player, but coaches will do their best to find roles where players can succeed and improve while contributing positively to their team. The goal for a coach is to have a cohesive team in which everyone plays a positive role to help the team succeed. Coaches will do their best to utilize their players to compete at a high level. Playing Time Goals - To provide players opportunities based on practice, effort, and position ability. - To find roles for players based on the needs of the team as well as the player's strengths and abilities. - To have a strategy for the team's success while teaching and developing players at a high level, weekend to weekend. - To evaluate the playing time/success of the team post-tournament and see if there are any opportunities for changes for the upcoming tournaments. - To communicate when needed so players understand what their roles are when they are on the field and on the bench. Coaching Strategies for Tournaments & Games At the beginning of a weekend, a coach will try to develop a strategy for the upcoming weekend. During the course of the weekend, a coach may also have to change those plans based on a number of situations: injuries, weather, game circumstances, cancellations, shortened time limits, mercies, etc. Sometimes, a plan works perfectly. Sometimes, a well-thought-out plan doesn't work at all. At the end of the weekend, a coach will continually reassess how it went and build a practice plan for the following weekend. A coach will take a look at things like playing time, number of at-bats, strategies, pitching rotations, etc., and see where he can improve. Coaching Decisions At the end of the weekend, decisions are final. Coaches make decisions that may not be entirely clear to a parent, but they may be based on what a coach thinks is best at the time for the team or the individuals on the field. Coaches will continue to do their best, weekend to weekend, to build a team that plays cohesively. If there is ever a conversation regarding playing time, please refer to our "Communication Guidelines" document.
